In the ensuing battle, Ratchet’s vehicle mode is badly damaged by Lockdown’s firepower and Ratchet is killed in the process. After Optimus Prime and the other Autobots rescue Cade Yeager and his family from Lockdown’s bounty hunters, Optimus makes his way to Chicago to retrieve the Seed from the Decepticons.Īlong the way, Ratchet joins him, but with their mission accomplished and the Seed secured, Ratchet stays behind to delay Lockdown and his forces long enough for Optimus and the others to get away. However, in recent years it has been estimated that there are somewhere between 4,000 and 7,000 Autobots still fighting in various battles across the globe. The exact number of Autobots left is unknown, as it has changed over the years and their numbers are constantly in flux. The lines of life and death are deeply blurred in the inspiring and often tragic stories of the Autobots. No matter the situation, death of an Autobot is a somber affair and a tragedy of the robot species. If a faction possesses the means, they may use the spark energy they have to update their current roster with new members shifted from old members. The majority of collections of spark energy have the capacity to reformat a new body, often with a much grander appearance than the one they had in their previous forms. This reformatting process is popularly known as “reincarnation” and is often used to bring loved ones back to life. In some cases, when an Autobot dies, their spark may be able to reform in a new body. Depending on the Autobot’s faction, their remains may be buried with certain Praxian rituals or given a much grander memorial. In some cases, their spark or processor may be retrieved and given the proper storage and respect it deserves. Depending on the circumstances of the death, their remains may or may not be collected and taken for preservation. When an Autobot dies, their bodies are generally left behind, their remains often seen as an honor to their bond. Other notable characters such as Ultra Magnus, Perceptor, Arcee, and Kup, have all died in various Transformers comics and animated series. Some of the more notable Autobots who have died include Jazz, Ironhide, Ratchet, Wheeljack, and Sentinel Prime, who were all killed in live action films.Īdditionally, Brawn and Cliffjumper were killed in the animated series when Megatron used his particle beam to lure Optimus Prime’s team away from their mission, and Bumblebee was killed in The Transformers: The Movie.Įven Optimus Prime has died, sacrificing himself in order to revive the AllSpark and end the Battle of Mission City.
